University of Miami 9th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration
On February 3, 2020, Florida Asian Services attended the 9th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration organized by University of Miami Asian Student Union at University of Miami. The event was held from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm at Coral Gables, FL.
FAS and Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board set up a booth for Census 2020 with English flyers, bilingual postcard in English and Chinese on information on Census. FAS also displayed the number from the previous Census in Florida to show how Census response is important to representation of different ethnicities in Florida. In addition, FAS especially highlighted how Census would impact their education and future job opportunities. FAS also encourage students with bilingual or multi-language skills to apply to work as Census workers to help the community. They were also encouraged to promote this job opportunity to their friends and classmates.
During the intermission of the performance, FAS went on stage to give a short speech to on how Census is important, easy and safe. FAS also remind the public to response to Census when the postcard arrived at the household in March.
